Beautiful Santee is a northeast suburb of San Diego and home to about 56,000 people with approximately half of its land undeveloped. Santee has plenty of schools, including two high schools and seven schools with Kindergarten through grade 8. All the major stores and restaurants you rely on are here, but with the surrounding natural landscape of sage scrub and bolder-covered rolling hills topped with open blue sky for miles—something you don’t get to see in the big city. Santee is rich in parks, and the Santee Lakes, "the best backyard in San Diego", give a home to wildlife and pride to Santee residents, not to mention a place to relax and play. In the winter, a view of the snowcapped Laguna mountains to the east is a treat for the eyes.
In 2018 the median sales price of Santee single family homes was $547,500 (the low sales price was $288,000, and the high sales price was $1,206,500). And for condos the median sales price was $367,500 (low sales price was $190,000 and the high sales price was $580,000).
Santee has all the benefits of a small community, but the city is just a short commute away. The downtown core of San Diego and the San Diego International Airport are less than 12 miles away. Scripps Hospital is only 6 miles away in nearby El Cajon. Tijuana Mexico is only 30 miles south, San Diego beaches are about 20 miles west and Disneyland 90 miles north. That doesn’t mean you have to go far for fun: stay in the neighborhood and enjoy the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Padres games, San Diego Park, Natural History museum, lots of golf courses and much more.
Major development started in Santee in the 1950s and most of the homes here are ranch style single-family homes. There are quite a few condos in Santee, but not many apartment buildings. There are some mobile homes, including 2 seniors mobile home communities.
There is plenty of new development going on in Santee. The latest new community being built on the southeastern side of town is Rattlesnake Mountain, with homes starting at 3000 sq. ft. This high end development includes 223 single-family homes and 148 condominium suites.
